Salma Hayek made her Hollywood debut with Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Her Oscar-nominated performance in Frida was the next major leap. Hayek is also active in television, most specifically as an director of Ugly Betty. Salma Hayek Jimenez began her life on 2 September 1966. As the child of a Spanish mother as well as a Lebanese father who was a Lebanese father, she grew up in a prestigious Catholic household. Born into a privileged Catholic family, Hayek attended a convent school in Louisiana when she was 12 and stayed with her aunt in Houston, Texas, during her teens. When she was in Mexico City she was a student at a university, but dropped out in order to pursue acting. The actress eventually became the star of Mexican television shows.
